Former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) says he would end his retirement to keep Donald Trump Jr. from becoming New York City’s mayor.
“I’d come out of a retirement just to beat him like a rented mule,” he said Tuesday at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, according to FOX5NY.
{mosads}Donald Trump Jr., who is GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s son, said Weiner should stay out of politics.
Donald Trump, meanwhile, said his son is not seeking New York City’s mayoral office before taking credit for Weiner’s inability to gain the same position.
“Donald Trump Jr. has no intention of running for mayor of New York, but I was the one who predicted Anthony Weiner would flame out and not be able to run for mayor,” he told FOX5NY. “People were amazed at how insightful I was.”
Donald Trump Jr. on Sunday said he would not rule out running for public office after the success of his father’s presidential campaign.
“As my father says, ‘We always like to keep our options open,’” he said on CNN’s “State of the Union. “So if I can do that as a service to our country, I’d love to do it.”
Weiner resigned from Congress in June 2011 for texting sexually explicit material to women outside of his marriage.
Weiner, who is married to Huma Abedin, vice chairwoman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, unsuccessfully sought New York City’s mayoral office in 2013.
