Former Ky. Sen. Bunning to manage local campaign

Former Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning (R) has already worn a pitcher’s cap and a senator’s skimmer and now plans to don a new hat as campaign manager for a local sheriff’s election.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Bunning, 82, plans to manage the reelection campaign of Campbell County Sheriff Jeff Kidwell (R).

“I am so proud that Jim has agreed to come out of retirement to manage my re-election campaign,” Kidwell said in a statement.  ”I don’t think I could find a better mentor, political strategist and friend than Jim Bunning. I will make good use of his knowledge and work ethic for the people of Campbell County.”

Bunning previously served as a major league baseball pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and the Philadelphia Phillies, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame shortly before being elected as senator in 1998.

He served two terms before retiring in 2010, to be succeeded by Sen. Rand Paul (R).
