David Ortiz finishes third in Boston mayoral race

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz finished third in Boston’s mayoral race, despite not appearing on the ballot, according to WGBH News.

{mosads}Ortiz led the way in write-in votes, a sign of how beloved ‘Big Papi’ is in his sports-crazed hometown. But it’s not his highest prize: Ortiz won this year’s World Series MVP award after batting .688 in the series.

Mayor-elect Marty Walsh (D) narrowly won the race to replace longtime Boston Mayor Tom Menino (D), who is retiring.
