DNC hires White House staffer to lead digital efforts

He also served as director of new media campaigns for the DNC and an email campaigner for President Obama’s grassroots campaign operation, Organizing for America.
In a statement, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) said Compton will work to maintain Democrats’ digital advantage over Republicans.
“The DNC is committed to maintaining and building the digital advantage that helped us secure victories in the last several elections. Matt will lead our digital team working to ensure that we are using technology in a strategic way that is smart, efficient, and allows us to reach new voters nationwide,” she said.
Obama’s two campaigns were known for their innovative use of digital strategy and tools to target voters and increase turnout.
Republicans, in post-mortem report following a disappointing showing in the 2012 elections, highlighted a significant digital strategy disadvantage as one area on which the party needs to improve if it hopes to remain competitive against Democrats.
Wasserman Schultz said Compton will help the committee continue to innovate for future elections.

“With his help, we will continue to innovate and use digital strategy to elect Democrats in 2013, 2014, and beyond,” she said.
Compton said he plans to grow that digital advantage.
“I’m thrilled to get the chance to return to the DNC. Together, we’ll continue to build the DNC’s digital program — reaching new voters, spreading the Democratic message online, and ensuring that we have the resources we need to maintain and grow our digital advantage over Republicans,” he said.
