Sen. Schumer: ‘No comment’ on possible Weiner mayoral bid

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) declined to comment on Sunday about former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s (D-N.Y.) possible reentry into politics.

Asked on ABC’s “This Week” about Weiner, Schumer said he wasn’t going to weigh in on whether or not the ex-New York congressman, a one-time aide to him, deserved a second chance at political life.

{mosads}“Look, I’m not going to comment on that. How did I know you’d ask that question, Jonathan?” Schumer said to host Jonathan Karl.

Karl pressed further, but to no avail.

“Not even whether he deserves a second chance?” Karl said.

“No comment,” Schumer responded.

Weiner resigned from office in 2011 after he was caught sending inappropriate photos and messages to women who were not his wife.

Last week, Weiner and his wife Huma Abedin made a splash in a New York Times Magazine article on the couple. In the profile, Weiner said he was considering a run for mayor of New York City.

Weiner’s former colleagues in the House are skeptical of Weiner’s possible run for mayor, with few jumping at the chance to endorse his possible bid.
