A super PAC supporting House Republicans raised over $5 million in October in a final push to help the GOP retain a strong majority on Election Day, CNN reported Wednesday.
{mosads}The Congressional Leadership Fund raised $5.4 million in the first few weeks of October and has $15 million to spend on the final weeks of the election.
The large fundraising haul comes without recent help from major GOP donors Sheldon Aldeson and Miriam Adelson, CNN reported.
The group is not optimistic about Republican presidential Donald Trump beating Democrat Hillary Clinton in the presidential race and is hoping to stave off a down-ballot surge from Democrats.
“[Democrats] know that we are heading into a difficult environment at the top of the ticket,” said the head of the organization Mike Shields, according to CNN. “If you want [Trump] to be successful, we need to have a firewall built in the House of Representatives and elect Republicans to Congress to stop bad policy from happening.”
The report noted that the largest October contribution to the super PAC was a $1.7 million donation from the head of Blackstone, Stephen Schwarzman.
