LaHood wins primary in race to replace Schock
Darin LaHood on Tuesday won the Republican primary in the race to replace former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock (R-Ill.), beating back conservative writer Michael Flynn, according to The Associated Press.
{mosads}LaHood, an Illinois state senator and son of former Rep. and Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, will be the favorite in the Sept. 10 general election for the seat.
LaHood was supported by the state Republican Party, the National Rifle Association and other influential groups. Flynn, a former writer for Breitbart, tried to cast himself as an anti-establishment choice.
Schock resigned from the House in March after revelations he improperly used funds to redecorate his office and acquire pricy items like new cars and tickets to big events.
