California freshman loses seat in priciest House race
Former Rep. Doug Ose (R-Calif.) reclaimed a seat in Congress, overcoming fresman Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif.) in a California district that covers much of Sacramento.
The Associated Press reported that Ose was ahead of Bera 51-49 will all votes tallied late on Tuesday night.
{mosads}The candidates and outside spenders dumped over $20 million into the race, making it the House’s most expensive campaign this cycle.
Ose retired from Congress in 2005 after serving a self-imposed, six-year term limit. He used personal wealth to cover much of the fundraising gap between him and Bera.
The two fought over health care during the campaign. Ose wanted a repeal of the Affordable Care Act and alleged during the campaign that Bera voted to cut Medicare funding.
Bera, a former country medical director and medical school official, dismissed the charges. He cited his medical expertise while defending ObamaCare’s success in expanding health care coverage.
