Virginia Del. Barbara Comstock (R) has a big lead over Fairfax County Supervisor John Foust (R) in a Virginia House district once viewed as a top Democratic target, according to a new Republican poll.
{mosads}Comstock leads Foust by 51 percent to 35 percent in a new poll conducted for the conservative group Citizens United by GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway and first shared with The Hill.
Other recent polling of the district from both parties has found Comstock favored to replace her old boss, retiring Rep. Frank Wolf (R-Va.), in Congress, though Democrats had found a close race in the slightly Republican-leaning Northern Virginia district.
But the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently pulled the plug on spending in the district, removing what had been its largest ad reservation of the cycle in order to retrench incumbents in other seats. The move was a sign that Democrats’ hopes of winning the seat were dwindling, and these numbers indicate that Comstock is likely join Congress next year.
The live-caller poll of 404 likely voters was conducted from Oct. 17-18 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.
