House Democrats top $150M for cycle

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee raised $10.2 million in August and this week topped $150 million raised for the cycle — surpassing the committee’s 2012 pace.

{mosads}The DCCC also had $54.5 million cash on hand at the end of August.

The committee’s fundraising strength is due in part to assists from President Obama and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), both money-raising powerhouses. The president has attended nine fundraisers for the committee this cycle and has a 10th planned for October, while Pelosi recently hit the $400 million mark raised.

And the DCCC is drawing significant support online, raising $5.5 million from over 270,000 donations in August.

DCCC Chairman Steve Israel (N.Y.) touted the cycle-to-date sum as “150 million examples of this Republican Congress’ out-of-touch agenda backfiring.”

“Thanks to the remarkable surge of grassroots support, we are able to fight back against the Koch brothers and hold Republicans accountable all across the country for their records of stacking the deck for special interests while turning their backs on the middle class,” he said in a statement.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has not yet released its August fundraising totals, but it has consistently been outraised by the DCCC this cycle, and finished July with $8.7 million less cash in the bank than the DCCC.

Still, Democrats have a tougher task this fall as they face a difficult political climate and expected drop-offs in turnout among their key constituencies.
