Ex-Redskins player to run for Hastings’s seat

Former Washington Redskins tight end Clint Didier entered the race Monday for the House seat that will be vacated by Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Wash.).

Didier, who’s backed by the Tea Party, ran for the Senate in 2010 and lost to incumbent Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). He also lost a race for state land commissioner in 2012. 

“You have seen my Senate run, you have seen my lands commissioner run and my message has not changed,” Didier said Monday, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. “It’s the same. We have to get government under control.”

{mosads}He played for the Redskins from 1982 to 1987, and then played for the Green Bay Packers in the late ’80s. 

Didier has previously expressed skepticism over climate change, and has also accused some of President Obama’s appointees of having “communist ties,” the Seattle newspaper notes. 

Republican state Sens. Sharon Brown and Janea Holmquist Newbry are also considering running for Hastings’s seat.

Hastings announced last Thursday he would retire from Congress at the end of the year after serving in the House for 20 years.
