Sessions blows away foe in fundraising

Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) is blowing away his primary foe, Tea Party activist Katrina Pierson (R), in fundraising.

Sessions, the chairman of the House Rules Committee and former chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, hauled in $420,000 during the last three months of 2013 and has almost $1.3 million in his campaign warchest.

{mosads}Pierson raised just $40,000 and has $50,000 in the bank ahead of the early March primary.

Her cash struggles come despite some high-profile endorsements. Pierson has the backing of the national conservative group FreedomWorks, Rafael Cruz — Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) father and a popular Tea Party speaker in his own right — and conservative blogger Michelle Malkin.

Sessions has given Pierson little room to his right to campaign — his lifetime score from the conservative Club for Growth is 87 percent — and his huge cash advantage will be tough to oust in his Dallas-area district.
