Pelosi becomes Dems’ $300M woman
For House Democrats, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is now the $300 million woman.
That’s the total that Pelosi, the former Speaker, has raised for her colleagues in the decade since she first entered the House leadership, according to data provided to The Hill by her political office on Monday.
{mosads}Pelosi has raised $56.5 million for House Democrats during the current election cycle, bringing her total since 2002 to $300.9 million. That includes $37.6 million raised directly for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as of the end of the second quarter on June 30.
In May and June alone, Pelosi raised more than $13 million. She has long been a fundraising juggernaut for Democrats and remains one of the party’s top draws. Her fundraising success is one reason she was able to keep her spot atop the House Democratic leadership after the party lost its majority in 2010.
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has raised $79.2 million for Republicans since the 2010 election, including $8.3 million in the second quarter, his office said Sunday. A Pelosi aide said the data was not “an apples-to-apples comparison” because Boehner’s dollar figure is a broader total that includes money raised through mail and email solicitations that have Boehner’s name on them, whereas Pelosi’s total does not.
