NC governor explains what makes Trump a role model

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) declined to withdraw his support of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at a Tuesday night debate with his Democratic challenger, Roy Cooper.

{mosads}Though Trump “needs to have his mouth washed out with soap,” McCrory said, according to ABC News, so does Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton “because teachers always said, ‘Don’t tell a lie.’ ”

“We’ve got some character issues among the presidential candidates, but I’m voting for the candidates that best represent my viewpoints,” McCrory said.

When asked by moderator Chuck Todd if the GOP nominee is a role model for kids, McCrory first said no, blaming Trump’s “vulgar verbal outbursts.”

But, he added, “What makes him a role model is where he does stand strong on certain issues that need to be said, especially from outside of Washington, D.C.”

Cooper leads McCrory by 4.6 points in the RealClearPolitics average.
