Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) will campaign for Terry McAuliffe (D) in the final days of his campaign for Virginia governor.
Leading into Tuesday’s election, McAuliffe — a former DNC chief himself — has led in polls throughout the race over his Republican opponent Ken Cuccinelli.
{mosads}Wasserman Schultz will start her trip Sunday, attending a number of field events. She will campaign until Election Day, stopping in at polling locations Tuesday.
McAuliffe, who has close ties to the party, has brought in other big name surrogates to stump for him during the campaign — including President Obama, Vice President Biden, and Bill and Hillary Clinton.
A battery of late polling has shown varying results, but all have McAuliffe in the lead. A Quinnipiac poll found the Democrat with a 4-point lead, while a Washington Post poll showed him with a 12-point lead earlier this week. The results reflect differing voter turnout scenarios on Election Day.
Cuccinelli will have his own band of national Republicans to close out the race. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) will campaign with him in the closing days of the race.
