Indianapolis Star endorses Kasich
Republican presidential candidate John Kasich received a lukewarm endorsement from The Indianapolis Star on Thursday, days ahead of the Indiana primary seen by many as the last chance to stop front-runner Donald Trump.
{mosads}The editorial praised Kasich, saying he “offers the best choice for voters in the Republican primaries. Kasich built a solid record as a member of Congress and has led well as Ohio’s chief executive.”
The Star’s editorial board, however, faulted Kasich for his “disappointing deal” in the state with rival Ted Cruz.
“Kasich’s campaign pulled out of Indiana in a concession to the Cruz camp and will instead focus its efforts on two western states,” the editorial said.
“The pact is aimed at preventing Trump from winning his party’s nomination. It’s unfortunate that Indiana voters have been given no chance to hear directly from the candidate most qualified to represent the Republican Party in the fall campaign for the White House.”
The endorsement seems meant more as a slap at Trump and Cruz than a full-throated backing of Kasich.
The editorial blasted the front-runner, saying that a “President Trump would be a danger to the United States and to the world.” It added that Cruz “also is ill-suited to serve in the Oval Office.”
