Carson throws cold water on Trump lawsuit against Cruz

Ben Carson cast doubt on Donald Trump’s threat of a lawsuit against Ted Cruz, warning the fracturing could hurt the GOP in the November general election.

“I don’t see how that does the cause any good if the Republicans are out there trying to sue each other and trying to destroy each other,” Carson told reporters during an event in South Carolina, when asked about the potential lawsuit.

“It seems to me that only makes it easier for the Democrats in the general election. Why would we do something like that?”

Trump has been threatening a lawsuit challenging Cruz’s eligibility to serve as president as their ongoing conflict in the presidential race heats up. That challenge would center on Cruz’s birth in Canada and argue he does not meet the constitutional requirement of being a “natural-born” citizen.

The real-estate magnate has deepended that threat in light of accusations from Cruz that he supports abortion rights, charges Trump calls false.

The two have repeatedly clashed since the Iowa caucuses, where Trump accused Cruz of stealing the state when his staffers told Carson supporters to switch to Cruz because their chosen candidate was about to drop out. Cruz has since apologized to Carson. But Trump repeatedly references the incident on the stump and continues to bash Cruz as dishonest.
