Major Gingrich donor would likely support different GOP nominee — but not Ron Paul

{mosads}Despite Gingrich — who has won only one state — falling well behind Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney in the polls, Adelson said he didn’t want to say whether he would switch his support to another candidate. But he said there is one candidate still in the race whom he would not support.

“If Ron Paul is chosen I certainly wouldn’t do that,” he said.

“I know Romney; I like him. I know Santorum; I like him,” Adelson said. He also called reports that he met with Romney earlier this month untrue.  

Adelson has made billions in the casino business. He has indicated a motivating interest in Israel, but told the magazine he is most interested in removing President Obama from office.

“I’m afraid of the trend where more and more people have the tendency to want to be given instead of wanting to give,” he said. “There are fewer philanthropists being grown and there are greater expectations of the government.” 

He also said he is “proud” of giving openly the large sum of money to Winning Our Future, the super-PAC supporting Gingrich.

“I’m against very wealthy ­people attempting to or influencing elections,” he said. “But as long as it’s doable I’m going to do it.”
