Pro-Santorum super-PAC stays quiet ahead of Pennsylvania primary

A pro-Rick Santorum super-PAC is staying quiet a few weeks ahead of the Pennsylvania primary.

Stuart Roy, an adviser for the Red White and Blue Fund, told The Hill in an email Thursday that there was “nothing to announce at the moment” on spending by the super-PAC.

{mosads}”Maybe something next week,” Roy added.

Also on Thursday, Santorum attended a private meeting with top conservative leaders to discuss the way forward.

Roy’s comment is not necessarily a sign that the super-PAC thinks Santorum is going to exit the race. Super-PACs often wait until a campaign ramps up its efforts before buying attack ads in a state, and the Pennsylvania primary is not until April 24.

Reports of his meeting with conservative leaders have sparked speculation Santorum may be considering exiting the race, and the former Pennsylvania senator is taking a four-day break over the Easter holiday.

His staff, however, emphasized he has fundraising events scheduled on Monday and campaign events in his home state on Tuesday.

Santorum’s campaign has said that the road ahead would be particularly difficult without winning the Pennsylvania primary.

“You could survive it, but it would be tough,” Santorum adviser Hogan Gidley said earlier this week, when asked what would happen if Santorum lost his home state.

A poll out Thursday showed Mitt Romney leading Santorum in Pennsylvania, with 42 percent of likely Republican voters choosing Romney and 37 percent favoring Santorum. Previous polls had Santorum in the lead.

2024 Election Coverage

Restore Our Future, a pro-Romney super-PAC, has spent $153,448 on advertising in Pennsylvania so far.
