Dem House campaign arm breaks record with $30 million in online donations

House Democrats’ campaign arm raised $30 million in online donations so far this year, breaking their previous online fundraising haul of $20 million.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) reached the earlier $20 million mark in online donations last May, which represented more than what the committee raised for the whole of 2015.

The committee raised a total of $19.7 million online in 2015.

{mosads}“The fact that we’re smashing through online fundraising records is a reflection of the groundswell of early support and energy behind House Democrats with the House in play in 2018,” DCCC spokesman Tyler Law said in a statement to the Hill on Monday.

“The massive growth in our base of grass-roots donors will continue to benefit our committee and our candidates throughout the entire cycle,” he continued.

News of the record comes after it was reported the DCCC raised twice as much as its Republican counterpart, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), did in July.

DCCC brought in $6.3 million last month, while the NRCC raised $3.8 million.

The DCCC’s high numbers come as a welcome sign as Democrats work to take back the House in the 2018 midterm elections.

Democrats need to take at least 24 seats in order to have a majority in the lower chamber.
