Trump halts big-money fundraising for GOP
Donald Trump has ended his big-money fundraising activity two weeks before the Nov. 8 presidential election, according to The Washington Post.
Trump Victory, the joint committee that has been fundraising with the Republican National Committee (RNC), hosted its last event during the third presidential debate, on Oct. 19.
{mossecondads}National finance chairman Steven Mnuchin told the Post that the Trump campaign will rely on online fundraising for the last leg of the race so that the GOP nominee can focus on face time with voters.
“We have big media buys, we have a terrific ground game,” Mnuchin told the Post.
The RNC only receives 20 percent of the funds that the Trump campaign raises online, while the lion’s share of large donations to Trump Victory have gone straight to the party. The RNC told the Post that it is still raising money for the GOP’s presidential ticket.
It’s not unusual for nominees to scale back their fundraising at this stage of the race.
Trump’s opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton, plans to attend her last donor event Tuesday night, according to the Post.
Mitt Romney held his last fundraiser as the Republican nominee on Oct. 20 of 2012.
