Clinton’s fundraising summer pays off with $143M haul

Hillary Clinton spent the vast majority of her summer schmoozing with donors in mansions on the East and West coasts — and her efforts have paid off.

{mosads}The Democratic presidential nominee on Thursday announced an astonishing August fundraising haul of $143 million, her best of the campaign so far.

About $62 million of the total went to the Clinton campaign, and roughly $81 million was raised for the Democratic Party and state parties across the country through joint fundraising accounts, the Clinton campaign said in a statement.

The campaign began September with more than $68 million on hand, while the party’s two other joint committees took in a combined $84 million.

“Thanks to the 2.3 million people who have contributed to our campaign, we are heading into the final two months of the race with the resources we need to organize and mobilize millions of voters across the country,” said Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook.

“[Presidential nominee] Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric continues to drive voters away from him and the Republican Party and has created new opportunities for Democrats up and down the ticket,” he added.

“These resources will help us to register and turnout millions of voters to elect progressive candidates across the country.”

Many of these millions of dollars came from some of the wealthiest and most powerful Democrats in the country, who met privately with Clinton in homes “from Greenwich, Conn., to Nantucket, Mass., to Beverly Hills, Calif.,” as The Washington Post documented at length.

As the Post reported in late August: “The price of entry to see Hillary Clinton on Sunday evening [in Cape Cod] was $50,000 per person, a sum that got you an al fresco meal of tomato and mozzarella salad, lobster, strawberry shortcake and an intimate conversation with the possible next president of the United States.”
