Senate Dems outraised GOP in July

Senate Democrats’ campaign arm outraised its Republican counterpart in July, as the group continues to grow its fundraising lead for 2015.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) reported raising $3.77 million, compared to $3.3 million for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC). Both groups called the hauls the best off-year July in each committee’s history.

The latest figures leave the DSCC with $9.2 million in cash on hand, compared to the NRSC’s $7.62 million.

But while the Republican campaign arm is debt free, the DSCC still holds $9.1 million in debt. A release from the DSCC notes that the debt is lower than the group’s debt at this point in the 2014 cycle.

DSCC executive director Tom Lopach levied praised on “grassroots supporters” for the group’s fundraising haul in a statement released Thursday afternoon.

“Republicans and their special interest allies like the Koch Brothers have spent over $13 million on television in an effort to rescue their vulnerable incumbents, and that’s why it’s so important that our generous supporters continue standing with us,” he added.

“We will continue working hard to win a Democratic majority that focuses on governing responsibly and helping all Americans, not just the wealthy special interests.”

Both groups are gearing up for the 2016 cycle, when the balance of power in the Senate will likely be in play. The Republicans have an eight-seat advantage for control of the Senate, but the party is defending more than twice as many seats as the Democrats are, many of which are expected to be tight races.
