GOP revs up fundraising with $11.2 million haul
The Republican National Committee bolstered its cash position in March, bringing in $11.2 million, a record for the month in a nonelection year.
The RNC ended the month with $10.3 million in cash on hand.
Both figures are a significant improvement over February, when the RNC raised $7.6 million and had $6.3 million in the bank.
The group also paid down about $600,000 in debt, leaving it with $2.6 million in liabilities.
“We had an exceptionally strong month, our best March ever in an off year,” Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. “This early investment from our donors and supporters allows us to execute a comprehensive strategy to defeat Hillary Clinton, including the successful launch of our Stop Hillary campaign.
“Their continued support will ensure we take back the White House in 2016. We are grateful for their generosity as we continue to grow and strengthen our party.”
Clinton is far and away the front-runner in the Democratic presidential field, freeing up the RNC to focus its attacks on her at an early stage. The former secretary of State officially launched her presidential bid on Sunday.
The RNC says it will use its fundraising haul to expand its political team and ground game in early-voting states, and build on its digital operations.
“It is our responsibility to set the foundation for Republican success in 2016 by reminding the American people that we need a leader who provides new solutions — not a third term of Obama-Clinton policies,” Priebus said.
