Clinton: GOP clinging to ‘fantasy’ on email probe

Hillary Clinton is dismissing the Republican “fantasy” that the federal investigation into her email arrangement will end with her “in handcuffs.”

“I know that they live in that world of fantasy and hope because they’ve got a mess on their hands on the Republican side,” Clinton told NBC’s “Today” on Friday.

{mosads}”That is not going to happen. There is not even the remotest chance that is going to happen,” Clinton continued. “But look, they’ve been after me, as I say, for 25 years. And they have said things about me repeatedly that have been proven to be not only false but kind of ridiculous.”

Clinton has previously dismissed the possibility that the FBI’s investigation into the private email server she used as secretary of State will lead to her being indicted, saying last month, “it’s not going to happen.”

Officials have signaled that the investigation into Clinton’s email arrangement is ongoing, and FBI director James Comey this week pledged there is “no outside influence” into the investigation.

Also in the NBC interview Friday, the former first lady sought to tie Republican front-runner Donald Trump’s remarks on punishing women who seek an abortion if it’s made illegal to Republicans generally.

“They want to make it illegal,” Clinton said. When host Matt Lauer pushed back on her characterization of Republicans’ views, acknowledging that many on the right criticized Trump’s remarks, she responded, “it’s just one step. If you make something illegal, what are the consequences for that illegality?”
