Poll: Sanders narrows gap in California

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is closing the gap with front-runner Hillary Clinton in California, according to a Field Poll released Thursday.

{mosads}Clinton leads among likely Democratic primary voters in the state 47 percent to 41 percent, according to the survey. The same poll conducted in January found Sanders trailing by 11 points in California.

Sanders continues to dominate among younger voters. He is favored by those between ages 18 and 29 by a 59-point margin. Among voters in their 30s, the Vermont senator leads 56 percent to 31 percent.

Clinton still leads among Hispanic voters, 49 percent to 42. She also has a 39-point lead among African-American voters.

The poll comes as good news for Sanders, who has had an impressive streak in recent weeks, winning six of the last seven primaries and caucuses. Still, it will be an uphill battle to catch up with Clinton, who leads in the pledged delegate count by 250.

The poll surveyed 584 likely Democratic voters from March 24 to April 4 and has a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
