Sanders wins Alaska caucuses

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is projected to win the Alaska caucuses.

He will take a majority of the state’s 16 pledged delegates. With 38 percent of the vote in, AP reports that Sanders leads with nearly 79 percent.

{mosads}Neither Sanders nor rival Hillary Clinton campaigned in the state before Saturday’s caucuses, although Sanders’s wife Jane visited Anchorage last week.

Clinton also lost Alaska in 2008, when then-Sen. Barack Obama took 75 percent support.

The former secretary of State still has a large lead in pledged delegates, having entered the day with 1,223, compared to 920 for Sanders.

Sanders also won Washington’s caucuses, which carry 101 delegates. Hawaii will also host a contest on Saturday.
