Sanders tears into Clinton’s Kissinger connections
Bernie Sanders on Thursday criticized rival Hillary Clinton for her interactions with Henry Kissinger, calling the 1970s secretary of State “destructive.”
“In her book and in this last debate, she talked about getting the approval or the support or the mentoring of Henry Kissinger,” the Vermont senator said during PBS’ Democratic presidential debate.
{mosads}“I happen to believe that Henry Kissinger was one of the most destructive secretaries of State in the modern history of this country,” he continued.
“I am proud to say that Henry Kissinger is not my friend. I will not take advice from Kissinger.”
Sanders said Kissinger’s actions in Cambodia created instability “that allowed Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge to come in and butcher 3 million people — one of the worst genocides in the history of the world.
“Not my kind of guy.”
Clinton defended her connections to Kissinger.
“I know journalists have asked who do you listen to on foreign policy, and we have yet to know who that is,” she said.
“Well, it ain’t Henry Kissinger, that’s for sure,” Sanders responded.
