Joy Behar: Trump doesn’t get ‘difference between criticism and racism’

“The View” co-host Joy Behar fired back after President Trump accused ABC of a double standard when it canceled Roseanne Barr’s show over a racist tweet.

“He doesn’t seem to know the difference between criticism and racism,” Behar said on Thursday. “People criticize the president. That is the job of the media — to criticize.”

“That’s a job of the president to accept the criticism like a man … and learn from it,” she added.

{mosads}Trump has been demanding apologies from ABC over the network’s critical coverage of him, comparing it to the network’s response to Barr’s racist tweet about former White House aide Valerie Jarrett.

“Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that ‘ABC does not tolerate comments like those’ made by Roseanne Barr. Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn’t get the call?” Trump tweeted.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday that “nobody is defending” Barr’s comments but that Trump was upset with the media’s “double standards.”

Sanders then provided a list of issues the administration has with ABC and its affiliates, including when Behar said Vice President Pence showed signs of “mental illness” after he said he listens to God.

“Where was Bob Iger’s apology to White House staff for Jemele Hill calling the president, and anyone associated with him, a white supremacist?” Sanders asked during a press briefing. “To Christians around the world for Joy Behar calling Christianity a mental illness?”

Jemele Hill was suspended by ESPN, which is owned by the ABC/Disney Television Group, following tweets she sent about the president. Behar also apologized for her comment in March.

“I was raised to respect everyone’s religious faith,” Behar said. “I fell short of that. I sincerely apologize for what I said.”

In response to Trump’s demand for an apology, “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin also listed things that she thinks Trump should apologize for.

“I would like him to apologize for the lackluster, despicable response for Puerto Rico that led to the deaths of over 4,500 people,” Hostin said. “I would like him to apologize that he threw toilet paper and paper towels out to the people of Puerto Rico when they were suffering.”

Hostin said Trump doesn’t deserve apologies now.

“I want those apologies, and I think until he leads by example, he doesn’t deserve apologies,” she said.
