Clinton running mate vows to ‘bring folks back together’ after election

Hillary Clinton’s running mate Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) says the Democratic ticket is planning on bringing the country “back together” after a bitter and divisive presidential campaign.

“We have not run this campaign as a campaign against the GOP with the big broad brush — we’ve run it against Donald Trump,” Kaine told the Associated Press on Saturday.

{mosads}Kaine predicted that Clinton will attract many GOP voters who are dissatisfied with their nominee, which will prove to be a solid foundation for bipartisanship.

“We’re going to get a lot of Republican votes and that will also be part of, right out of the gate, the way to bring folks back together,” he said.

Part of his pitch for bipartisanship comes from his plan to work together with the Republican senators.

“I have very good relations with Republicans in the Senate,” Kaine said. “There’s some people who really want to get some good work done.”

Kaine also expressed confidence in winning the election, stating that the Democratic ticket needs to start preparing for “practicalities” of assuming office.

“It’s probably only been in the last couple of weeks that I’ve started to think about, OK, the prospect of winning is such that we better start doing some thinking about practicalities,” he told AP.

Clinton’s running mate also said Saturday that he hired his former chief of staff Wayne Turnage to be his transition director should the Democratic ticket win the White House in November.
