Sean Penn: GOP candidates make me miss George W. Bush

Actor Sean Penn says “the defecation on America that is the Republican debate” is making him miss former President George W. Bush.

Speaking Friday at the RSA computer security conference, the outspoken liberal said Americans are getting caught up in angry rhetoric and aren’t think about what’s best for the nation.

{mosads}“So many of them truly want to hate each other, want to bottom out their community so they can rise up in it, want to really devastate the rest of the world and maybe get into a civil war,” he said, according to USA Today.

He added that if this is what voters want, they should consider supporting Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump or Ted Cruz.

When pressed, the “Fast Times at Ridgemont Hight” star also revealed which candidate he would support in the election.

“I think Bernie Sanders is an exceptional American, and I’m going to vote for Hillary Clinton,” he said during the onstage interview.

Penn recently gained national attention for conducting an interview with Mexican drug cartel boss Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, known as “El Chapo,” shortly before he was arrested by authorities.

The actor also gave his take on the state of journalism, saying that the industry is being “slaughtered” by the 24-hour news cycle.

“You can’t do journalism” with those fast-paced demands, Penn said. “You can say what happened but you can’t say how it happened.”
