Sanders creates documentary aimed at Hispanic voters
Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders has created a Spanish-language documentary ad in an effort to reach out to Hispanic voters.
The five-minute ad tells the story of a young female migrant worker and mother of three in Immokalee, Fla., who has suffered from low wages and abuses as a tomato picker.
{mosads}”Bernie Sanders took interest in the lives of the workers and wanted to hear their struggles,” the woman says. “He didn’t keep silent about what he witnessed here in Immokalee.”
She relates some of the hardships she faced in the tomato fields and discusses how Sanders visited Immokalee in order to shine a light on the abusive work environment.
After the Vermont senator visited the town and called for hearings on the conditions the workers were facing, she says he worked to bring relief to the community.
“There are now more rights and worker support,” she says. “We started to see changes in our wages. It really improved our lives.”
According to the New York Times, the ad will air on Univision in an expensive Thursday night prime-time slot, less than a week before Florida’s Democratic primary on March 15.
