Caitlyn Jenner: I get more flak for being Republican than transgender

Caitlyn Jenner says people criticize her more for being a Republican than for her gender identity.

“I have gotten more flak for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans,” Jenner told students at the University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday night, according to the New York Daily News.

{mosads}Students had asked Jenner why she wasn’t a Democrat, noting the party’s support for transgender rights.

“Just because you change gender doesn’t mean you change your core beliefs,” Jenner said.

Jenner has long identified as a conservative. She said during an interview on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” last year that she wasn’t in support of gay marriage until her transition, the Daily News reported.

“At this point Democrats have been painted as the party of LGBT issues, but there are plenty of Republicans that believe ‘live and let live,’ ” she said.
