Amy Schumer urges fans to lobby Congress on gun control

Actress and comedian Amy Schumer is urging her fans to take action following Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif.

The “Trainwreck” star took to Twitter on Thursday to urge her 2.7 million followers to lobby Congress for stricter gun control.

“Text ‘enough’ to 877-877 for the public to tell congress directly that we want background checks on ALL gun sales,” she tweeted. “Do it now! I did!”

The number connects callers to a recorded message from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and then transfers to a senator’s office based on the caller’s zip code.

Schumer is a cousin of Sen. Charles Schumer (N.Y.), who is expected to be the chamber’s Democratic leader in the next Congress. She’s become an outspoken voice in favor of gun control after a man opened fire at a Louisiana screening of her film “Trainwreck” in June, killing two women.

She also mocked gun owners in a pro-gun spoof on “Saturday Night Live” earlier this year.

Fourteen people were killed and 21 injured in San Bernardino after two people stormed an office building and opened fire.

Authorities said one of the suspects, an American citizen, was in contact with multiple international Islamic terrorist groups and could have been radicalized.
