Paul: Trump is ‘yesterday’s news’
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Donald Trump has hit his apex following the second GOP primary debate on Wednesday.
“I think we’ve seen the crest of Donald Trump and hopefully we’ve seen the last of him as someone leading in the primaries,” Paul told reporters before his speech at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference on Saturday, according to the Detroit Free Press.
{mosads}“I think he’s yesterday’s news,” he added. “I don’t think he rises to the bar of someone we should consider.”
Paul, who is running for the GOP presidential nomination, said that he has a strong campaign network in Michigan, saying his laissez-faire economic policies would do a lot to revitalized Detroit.
“We have a strong operation in Michigan and Michigan is a big part of our strategy,” Paul said. “A lot of emphasis goes on the first four states, but Michigan is right after that, and if you’re not prepared to be organized in the states after the first four primaries, you really can’t win this race.”
An aide for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.), who is also running in the Republican primary, is accused of punching Paul’s top Michigan campaign official in the face earlier this week.
When asked by reporters whether Rubio should fire his aide, Paul said he thinks “the police need to finish the investigation.”
