Fiorina: Leadership isn’t about ‘your ego’
GOP presidential hopeful Carly Fiorina jabbed at Donald Trump without naming him on Saturday, calling into question the GOP front-runner’s leadership ability.
“You see, leadership isn’t defined by position or title, or how big your office is, your airplane, your helicopter, your ego,” Fiorina said at the Mackinaw Leadership Conference in Michigan, drawing laughs.
The billionaire businessman has a penchant for showing off his “Trump”-emblazoned, $7 million Sikorsky helicopter, including giving children rides at the Iowa State Fair this year.
{mosads}“When I was a secretary, I thought that the guy with the big office was a leader,” Fiorina said.
“And then I got a little older and wiser.”
Fiorina quoted former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, whom fellow Republican contender Jeb Bush nominated for a place on the $10 bill during this week’s second GOP debate.
“Margaret Thatcher once said, ‘I am not content to manage the decline of a great nation,’ ” Fiorina said. “Well, neither am I, ladies and gentlemen. I think we have been managing the decline of this great nation for far too long.”
Fiorina delivered a strong performance at Wednesday’s debate, during which she often mixed it up with Trump.
The businesswoman responded to Trump’s remarks about her appearance, saying “Women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said.”
Trump, for his part, attacked Fiorina for the contraction she oversaw as CEO of Hewlett-Packard, where she was eventually fired.
A flash poll conducted after the debate has Fiorina leading in the New Hampshire primary.
