Clinton and Warren’s secret meeting

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D) invited Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) to her Washington, D.C., home in December to solicit advice from the rising Democratic star, The New York Times reported Tuesday.

The meeting, which didn’t include any aides, took place at the Clintons’ house in Northwest Washington.

{mosads}The newspaper reported that Clinton, a likely candidate for president in 2016, did not ask Warren to endorse her.

Progressives see Warren as a promising challenger to the more centrist Clinton. Warren has, so far, resisted their calls to run, however.

Instead, she has focused on building her portfolio in the Senate. Shortly after the midterm elections, now-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) added her to the party’s leadership team, while they were still in the majority.

She also won a victory, when the administration announced it would not renominate Antonio Weiss, a Wall Street banker, to a top post at the Treasury Department. Warren had led a campaign against his nomination.

Clinton might also be looking to adopt some of Warren’s populist rhetoric as her own, to fight the impression that she is too close to wealthy power brokers.
