Spouse of Facebook co-founder loses

Rep. Christopher Gibson (R-N.Y.) won reelection for a third term against Democratic challenger Sean Eldridge in New York’s 19th District, in the Hudson Valley.

{mosads}The Associated Press declared Gibson the winner Tuesday night in the race, which had received national attention.

Eldridge, 27, is married to Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes. They are multi-millionaires who largely self-funded Eldridge’s campaign. Gibson was expected to win.

Eldridge moved to the district just before announcing he was running for Congress and Gibson was able to portray Eldridge as a carpetbagger.
Eldridge conceded the race earlier Tuesday night.

“I remain committed to fighting for those issues and working to make life better for families in our region,” Eldridge said in his concession statement.
