Poll: Shaheen, Brown tied in NH

A new poll shows Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) in a dead heat with her challenger, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown (R), with just 50 days until November’s midterm election.

CNN-ORC poll of likely voters released Monday found both candidates tied with 48 percent each, the first independent poll conducted since last week’s primary.

{mosads}The poll found 81 percent of likely voters in New Hampshire have made up their mind, while 17 percent said they could still change before Election Day.

Among a slightly larger sample of registered voters, Shaheen maintained a 51 percent to 44 percent lead.

Shaheen’s favorable rating stands at 54 percent, while 42 percent have an unfavorable view of her. Brown’s numbers are slightly underwater, with a 46 percent favorable and 48 percent unfavorable split.

Shaheen has led in polling throughout the year. Before Monday’s poll, she maintained a lead of just over 5 percent, according to the Real Clear Politics Average.

The CNN poll surveyed 883 registered voters, including 735 likely voters, from Sept. 8-11 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

Following the CNN poll, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee released its own internal poll showing Shaheen up by 8 points among likely voters — 51 percent to 43 percent. The poll conducted by Kiley and Co. found the senator’s numbers were bolstered by a 24-point lead among female voters, while she trailed Brown by 10 points among men.

The internal poll showed Shaheen’s favorable rating at 50 percent, while her unfavorable rating was 45 percent. Brown’s favorable rating stood at 38 percent, while his unfavorable rating was 51 percent.
