McDaniel campaign lists own lawyer as irregular voter

A leading lawyer for Republican Chris McDaniel was included on a list of potential crossover or irregular votes the Senate campaign is asking to be thrown out, according to The Clarion-Ledger

The newspaper reported that lawyer Mitchell H. Tyner Sr. and his wife were included on an affidavit prepared by the campaign in its quest to overturn the results of McDaniel’s failed Mississippi Senate runoff against Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) in June.

The lawyer — among hundreds of others — is included on the list sent to the Cochran campaign and alleged to be a crossover or irregular vote cast in the GOP runoff.

{mosads}McDaniel’s campaign has said Cochran’s 7,667-vote win should be invalidated, claiming that many of the votes cast for Cochran came from citizens who illegally voted in the GOP runoff after earlier voting in the Democratic primary.

Tyner did not return a call to the newspaper to explain the apparent mix-up.

Earlier this month, Tyner argued more than 15,000 votes fit crossover voting patterns.

“Chris McDaniel clearly won the runoff by 25,000 votes,” Tyner said earlier this month when calling on the state party to overturn the election results and give McDaniel the win.

The state party has since refused to hear the challenge. The campaign still has the option of making its case through the courts.
