The failed campaign of Chelsea Clinton’s mother-in-law, Marjorie Margolies, says nothing about the Clinton family’s coattails, David Plouffe, President Obama’s former campaign chief, said Sunday.
The loss had more to do with the dynamics of the Pennsylvania’s 13th District, he said.
{mosads}”Well I think they helped out a family obligation,” Plouffe said on ABC’s “This Week.” “You have to help the mother-in-law.
“I think that she represented that district 20 years ago, so a lot has changed. And this was a very strong Democratic candidate, a young candidate, who won the race. I don’t think it says anything about Clinton coattails at all.”
Margolies, a former Pennsylvania representative, lost her bid in the Democratic primary to state Rep. Brendan Boyle. She had high name recognition and both Bill and Hillary Clinton campaigned for her in the district being vacated by Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D).
Margolies last served in Congress in 1994, when she lost reelection in the GOP wave election.
