Dems blast Breitbart over Pelosi image

The Democratic National Committee on Monday blasted Breitbart News for its portrayal of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in artwork promoting the launch of the company’s new California bureau.

DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) called on Republicans to condemn the artwork and urge the conservative outlet to remove the ad, which superimposes Pelosi’s head on a bikini-clad body, with her tongue hanging out.

“If GOP leaders are serious about their rebrand, then both their elected and Party leadership should condemn this outrageous behavior, call on Breitbart News to immediately remove the ad, and not continue to use this website as a forum for their views,” Wasserman Schultz said in a statement.

{mosads}She said it is “no wonder the Republicans are having problems appealing to women.” Democrats won women by 11 points in the 2012 presidential election, according to exit polls.

“To say the least, the Breitbart News ad is foul, offensive, and disrespectful to all women. It is a disgusting new low and would be reprehensible against any woman — regardless of party,” she continued.

Later in the day, Pelosi called the poster “tasteless” and “undignified” after a new conference, according to The Washington Post.

“I mean, is it even worthy of a question,” she said.

In announcing Brietbart News’s California bureau, Joel Pollak, the editor of the state blog, said in a statement Sunday: “In the midst of a literal and figurative drought, we want to cultivate new ideas and a new vision for how California can recover what it once was — and be even better, once again a hope for the nation instead of a drag.”

A number of DNC spokesmen earlier in the day blasted the artwork, which is featured under the banner: “West Coast politics, because you can’t make this s— up…”

The poster is one of a number of pieces featured on Brietbart’s website.
