At a little over $4.25 per gallon, the price of gas for U.S. consumers hit an all-time high Wednesday as a weeks-long upward trend driven by the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues.
Figures shared by the American Automobile Association (AAA) also show that California came in as the most expensive state for a fill-up by a significant margin, at more than $5.57 per gallon. But most states showed prices higher than $4.00 and no state was under $3.79.
President Biden announced March 8 that the U.S. would immediately suspend all oil imports from Russia. Even though, relatively speaking, the U.S. doesn’t import much Russian oil to begin with, as Time reports, the ban was expected to have a noticeable effect on Russia.
