Domino’s offering carryout customers $3 ‘tip’ to pick up orders amid driver shortage
Popular chain Domino’s Pizza is offering carryout customers a $3 “tip” to order online and pick up their food items amid a shortage of company drivers.
In a statement on Monday, Domino’s said it will begin offering $3 credits on customer orders if they pick up their carryout purchase instead of having it delivered.
Domino’s said the $3 “tip” may be used only on online carryout orders, adding that customers can combine their carryout tip with their favorite carryout order.
“It takes skill to get pizza from a Domino’s store to your door,” Domino’s executive Art D’Elia said in a statement. “As a reward, Domino’s is giving a $3 tip to online carryout customers who take the time and energy out of their day to act as their own delivery drivers. After all, we think they deserve it.”
“Domino’s carryout tips come just in time for the biggest football game of the year, which is also one of the busiest days of the year for pizza,” D’Elia said.
“Domino’s typically sells about 2 million pizzas on football’s favorite Sunday, so if you’re throwing a party and feeding hungry fans, make it a carryout order and get tipped! Then you can treat yourself to a delicious pizza with a great deal the week after,” he added.
Domino’s latest initiative comes as the company struggles to find delivery drivers, which puts a dent in their quarterly sales figures, CW affiliate KTLA reported.
The online-only offer runs through May 22, the statement noted.
