“Climate disasters, which are growing in frequency and intensity, do not impact all communities equally, with communities of color and island nations facing the brunt of climate change,” the pop singer said in a statement.

The damaging effects of climate change threaten everyone, but communities of color are more vulnerable to these consequences due to existing social inequities. Rising sea levels caused by climate change threaten the people, flora and fauna of island countries, while natural disasters like hurricanes are becoming increasingly destructive due to warming ocean waters.
“To combat this inequity, funders must build partnerships with organizations, acknowledging their deep understanding of what is necessary to achieve climate justice in their own communities,” the foundation said on its website.
The funds are being given to groups focused on empowering women, communities of color and the LGBTQ+ community through their work, and include the Black Feminist Fund, the Center for Popular Democracy, the Hive Fund for Gender and Climate Justice and the Caribbean Climate Justice Project.
