Bolsonaro released from hospital in Brazil

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was released from the hospital on Wednesday, two days after he was admitted for an intestinal obstruction.

Bolsonaro, 66, said he began to feel poorly on Sunday after having lunch, and was fitted with a nasogastric tube at the hospital. The Brazilian president has dealt with similar symptoms in the past since he was stabbed in the stomach during a 2018 campaign event.

In July, Bolsonaro was admitted to the hospital after experiencing a chronic case of hiccups and abdominal pain. He was released after four days of medical treatments.

Doctors ruled out the need for additional surgery on Tuesday, The Associated Press reported. Antonio Luiz Macedo, the doctor who operated on Bolsonaro after his stabbing, told reporters on Wednesday to that he had advised the Brazilian leader to avoid intense physical activity this week and to “chew well, avoid some foods.”

“We hope to keep the president like that for the next 20, 30 years,” Macedo said.

“I’ll try to follow them, but life goes on,” Bolsonaro joked on Wednesday, according to the AP. “My whole life I was an athlete, in the armed forces, a paratrooper, diver. It’s hard to stay still.”

Bolsonaro on Wednesday shared a photo of himself in the hospital, thanking his well-wishers for their thoughts and concerns.
