Whitmer isolating after husband’s positive COVID-19 test

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) is isolating from her husband at their residence after he tested positive for COVID-19, The Associated Press reported. 

Bobby Leddy, Whitmer’s spokesman, told the news wire that the governor was not experiencing symptoms and had a negative rapid test result. 

Whitmer was awaiting PCR lab test results out of an abundance of caution, Leddy said. 

“Until the PCR test comes back, the governor is isolating in a separate area of the house and has taken steps to complete contact tracing to keep others safe. … We wish the first gentleman a speedy recovery and hope he feels better soon,” Leddy said.

Leddy also said Whitmer’s husband, Marc Mallory, was awaiting results from a PCR test after testing positive through a home test, according to the AP. 

Leddy added that both Whitmer and Mallory took extra precautions to limit contact with others during the holiday season. 

The U.S. is dealing with a winter surge of COVID-19 infections as the omicron variant takes hold across the nation.

Both Whitmer and Mallory are fully vaccinated against the virus and have received their booster shots, the AP noted.
