‘You’ star responds to viral Laura Ingraham hoax

“You” star Penn Badgley weighed in Tuesday on the discussion of a clip from Laura Ingraham’s primetime Fox News series, saying he knew the viral moment was a scripted play on his hit Netflix show.

Ingraham got attention after an exchange with Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo on Monday during which she pretended to be confused by Arroyo’s repeated references to the Netflix series.

When Arroyo mentioned the topic of measles being brought up on “You,” Ingraham responded, “Wait, wait, wait. When did I mention measles?”

Arroyo continued, saying, “I don’t know. It was on ‘You.'”

“What was on me? What are you talking about?” Ingraham replied.

The duo continued the Abbott and Costello-inspired back-and-forth for about two minutes.

The exchange effectively tricked many, but not Badgley, who plays lead Joe Goldberg on “You.”

Arroyo on Monday night confirmed the routine was scripted when responding to a Twitter user who said he and Ingraham had performed the “best unintentional” comedy routine.

The third season of “You” dropped on Netflix last month.
