An audience of Republicans booed Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Saturday after he said they should consider receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.
A video published by The Daily Beast shows the senator speaking at a Republican event in Summerville, S.C., urging supporters to think about getting the jab.
“If you haven’t had the vaccine you ought to think about getting it because if you’re my age…” Graham says before he’s interrupted by a chorus of boos. Others in the audience shouted “No!” at the senator.
“I didn’t tell you to get it, you ought to think about it,” he continued as the group continued to boo.

“Ninety-two percent of people in hospitals in South Carolina are unvaccinated,” he went on to say as some in the crowd yelled “false!” and “not true!”

Graham emphasized he opposed vaccine mandates, saying they’re “probably unconstitutional,” but he maintained he believed the shots are effective against COVID-19.
The senator asked those in attendance to raise their hands if they had received a vaccine for the measles, with many shouting back “it’s not the same.”
Graham praised the vaccines for keeping his COVID-19 symptoms mild when he was diagnosed in late July.
“I am very glad I was vaccinated because without vaccination I am certain I would not feel as well as I do now. My symptoms would be far worse,” Graham said at the time.
Graham’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Changing America.
