Suspected gunman identified in Tennessee grocery store shooting
Police have identified the suspected gunman in Thursday’s shooting at a grocery store in Collierville, Tenn., that left one person dead and 14 others wounded.
UK Thang was identified by the police as the suspected shooter, ABC News reported. Thang died from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Collierville Police Department Chief Dale Lane did not say the name of the shooter in the press briefing Friday to refrain from giving him “notoriety,” but the police gave the information following the briefing.
Lane said the shooter was a third-party vendor for the grocery store. Ten of the victims in the shooting were Kroger employees while five victims were customers in the store at the time.
Olivia King, 70, was fatally wounded in the shooting.
“Our family is devastated by this senseless act of violence. We ask that you pray for the repose of the soul of our mother, Olivia,” Wes King, one of King’s sons, told ABC News. “We also ask everyone for their prayers for all families and friends affected by the events today, as well as for God’s mercy on the shooter and his family. Thank you.”
Regional One Hospital said in a press briefing Friday that three victims were still in critical condition and three required emergency surgery. The police did not say what they believed the motive was or what type of gun was used in the shooting.
A search warrant was executed on Thang’s home and electronic devices were collected.
Police said after the shooting they had to spend time getting people out of their hiding places including the roof, freezers and locked offices.
